Collecting Student Content and Info

We’ll be collecting content/files from students by having them upload their work on a dedicated station w/ hard drive. The hard drive will be set up with a folder for each student, labeled by their NSU login/email ID (ex: bekek461). Within each student’s folder, there should be 10-12. 4-6 of these files will content that the students submit. The remaining files will be generated by us Viz people to fit specific formatting rules.

The info/details for each student (name, project name, department, description, etc.) will be collected through an online survey and stored in a MySQL database to be later pulled and generated into XML files used by VizRT.

Here’s the Excel spreadsheet that lists specs, rules, etc. for the files we’ll need. The second tab on the spreadsheet lists the questions to be asked via the online survey: vizFileSpecs.xls

Here’s a visual of the file structure (does not include files for video or audio…but these are allowed as well):

vizfilestructure

The format of the xml file generated for each student will be used to pull data that will display when is student is chosen to be viewed close up on the wall. The xml structure will look like this:

<student>
<name></name>
<home></home>
<dept></dept>
<career></career>
<pName></pName>
<medium></medium>
<longDesc></longDesc>
<tags>
<tag></tag>
<tag></tag>
<tag></tag>
</tags>
</student>

Things/Info we need to get this all done:

  • Input from each department concerning the types of mediums for student artwork (need this for a drop down menu included in the survey)
  • A list of all the students in the show, especially their NSU id/login
  • A list of when all core/thesis classes meet during the week so we can schedule studio time with Maurice to take portraits

List of Questions for VizRt

1. Formats for video or audio? Example: Avi , Wav, mp3, etc…
